Venture through deep space, meet a range of different alien species, and spread your empire to the edges of the universe. The Last Colony is all about space exploration and resource management, all of which comes down to the choices you the player make. Do you sacrifice crewmates for more oxygen or go guns blazing and become a name feared by all?
Working on this GDD (Game Design Document) I wanted to really encapsulate what I love so much about resource management games. Some of my favourites at the time where Factorio, FTL and CIV 6. To me resource management games are more fun the more risk that is involved with your decisions, and how those risks affect the world and characters around you, so taking from these inspirations I planned on creating a game that used real time decisions to affect not only your resources that in turn effect external things, like the size of your ship, the number of crew and even your political alignment with the in game factions.
This was a massive passion project of mine and one I would love to return to, I ended up settling for Knightchord to work on for my GDD as The Last Colony seemed like a better solo project for me to work on outside of university
